Starport 75 – Cocktail Recipe

Ever wondered what drinks Tomorrowland’s robot waiter would serve? Here is Theme Park Utopia’s own recipe for the Starport 75 cocktail – a Space Mountain-inspired twist on the classic French 75!

Ingredients:

  • 30 ml (1 oz) gin (we use Tanqueray No. 10, but any will do!)
  • 15 ml (0.5 oz) blue curaçao (we use DeKuyper Blue Curaçao.)
  • 15 ml (0.5 oz) fresh lime juice (this is roughly one whole, small lime.)
  • 15 ml (0.5 oz) simple syrup (Giffard Sugar Cane syrup is our preferred – it’s shelf stable!)
  • 60 ml (2 oz) champagne (prosecco works fine if you’re on a budget!)
  • Lime peel (make the garnish BEFORE juicing the lime!)
  • Cocktail cherry (we use Opies Cocktail Cherries. Don’t use glacé cherries – they’re a sticky mess.)

Directions:

TIP 1: Always start with the cheapest ingredients first – don’t make expensive mistakes!

TIP 2: Always measure your ingredients accurately. Great cocktails are about balance; there are NO brownie points for overpouring alcohol house party-style!

  1. Put 3-4 medium/large ice cubes into a boston shaker.
  2. Pour the lime juice, simple syrup, blue curaçao, and gin into the shaker.
  3. Close the shaker and shake vigorously for around 20 seconds.
  4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass (pictured).
  5. Pour the champagne into the glass and stir to combine.
  6. Add garnish to the drink to finish it off. See our suggestion and instructions below!

Garnish:

This fun, fairly simple cocktail garnish is designed to symbolise features of the famous Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World! The cherry represents a planet or comet, whilst the lime twist is the spiralling track of this classic rollercoaster!

  1. Cut a lime horizontally to create a thin wheel of lime. Closely cut around the wheel to take off the peel, leaving you with a ring of lime peel. You could also use the peeling tool on a zester to quickly peel a ring of lime peel. Make sure the ring is not a closed circle – one cut may be needed to twist it.
  2. Use a metal straw to tightly wrap the lime peel around it. Bunch the peel together closely and hold for a few seconds.
  3. Remove the lime peel – it should hold its shape as a lime twist!
  4. Pierce one end of the lime twist with a cocktail stick – do this slowly and gently to avoid splitting the peel.
  5. Spiral the lime twist around the cocktail stick and pierce the opposite end of the peel.
  6. Put a cocktail cherry on the end of the cocktail stick and place into the drink.

We hope you have fun making this cocktail – it’s a simple, fun drink, inspired by both a classic cocktail and a classic rollercoaster! Enjoy!
